Senior Public Health Engagement Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Public Health Engagement Specialist contributes to the advancement of local public health practice by managing a range of operational responsibilities related to NACCHO’s membership and meetings functions. The Senior Specialist will oversee the engagement, retention, and marketing strategies to execute NACCHO’s membership and meetings strategic activities that generate approximately 95% of the organization’s unrestricted revenue from membership dues and annual conferences. The Senior Specialist will develop and promote member benefits, educational and engagement opportunities, provide exemplary member service, and offer recommendations to continuously advance NACCHO’s mission.

Specifically, the Senior Specialist leads the engagement activities supporting the work and activities between NACCHO and the State Associations of County and City Health Officials (SACCHOs); the Past Presidents Council; and the Membership Committee. The Specialist is directly responsible for planning and coordinating engagement activities related to NACCHO’s annual conferences and ancillary meetings, including Leadership Week, SACCHO semi-annual in-person and monthly virtual meetings, new member engagement sessions, and the annual awards program and reception. This position also oversees the engagement and recruitment process for NACCHO’s Subject Matter Expert Advisory Workgroups; manages the annual awards program, including the Model Practices Program; and works on other NACCHO membership activities as directed by the Manager, Membership and Meetings. This position supervises 1-2 staff involved in membership and meetings engagement, such as specialists/associate specialists/and or other assistants.

The Senior Specialist understands the implications of internal and external policies that impact the position. He/she/they typically perform analysis, research, writing, and project management, and will complete projects or components of large-scale projects and programs with little supervision. The work involves partnerships with coworkers, members, vendors, and other external groups, and requires the exercise of discretion and independent judgment and communicates with internal and external stakeholders at a level commensurate with the position’s duties and expectations. The Specialist will have frequent contact with NACCHO members, outside organizations, and internal stakeholders that may involve project coordination, information sharing, or resolution of problems.

POSITION SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Plans and manages the monthly activities of the Council of SACCHOs, Past Presidents Council, and Membership Committee, Workgroup Staff Leads, and Student Section in coordination with NACCHO membership and meetings staff.
  • Develops, executes, and monitors MOU agreements as well as the semi-annual in-person meetings during Leadership Week and NACCHO360 in coordination with the Council of SACCHOs.
  • Works directly with the Past Presidents Council to develop and execute a new alumni membership program.
  • Oversees the creation and collection of board committee reports from the Council of SACCHOs, Past
  • Presidents Council, and Membership Committees. Assembles the membership and meetings staff board reports.
  • Develops monthly and quarterly drip campaigns to communicate the value of membership using HigherLogic (Career Center, New Members, Students, and the annual awards and Workgroup Recruitment processes).
  • Maintains the integrity and accuracy of the membership areas within the NACCHO website that are related to member engagement (Become A Member, Annual Awards, SACCHO, Student Section); creates a new category within this section of the website for the Past Presidents Council.
  • Develops written and digital materials that support and enhance member engagement including, but not limited to bi-annual membership surveys, emails, newsletters, press releases, fact sheets, blogs, case studies, etc.
  • Collaborates across the membership and meetings team to plan, develop, and execute engagement strategies through the development of project timelines to meet deadlines.
  • Builds and grows the student section program in coordination with membership and meetings staff.
  • Works directly with the membership and meetings communications and partnership teams to effect marketing and strategies and engagement activities for NACCHO’s annual conferences, events, and educational activities.
  • Identifies opportunities for new engagement activities, such as Membership Mondays, virtual cafes, etc.
  • Works directly with NACCHO programs and operations staff, health department members, committees, and others to establish and maintain positive relationships and achieve NACCHO objectives.
  • Tracks recruitment, retention, and engagement activities using Smartsheet, MS Excel, and CRM database.
  • • Represents NACCHO at key public health conferences to expand awareness and recruit public health professionals (health departments, students, and others) as new NACCHO members.
  • Demonstrates high-quality service with internal and external stakeholders, especially NACCHO members.
  • Assists with various NACCHO programmatic projects as needed, and other NACCHO membership and meetings duties as directed by the Manager, Membership and Meetings.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:

Bachelor's degree and certification in relevant professional field with a minimum of 5-7 years relevant work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience, including a relevant certification. Master’s degree in a relevant field preferred. Previous experience with Association Management Software (AMS), Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and project management tools (i.e., Smartsheet). Experience with non-profits, membership associations, or health communications desirable. Previous project management experience, program management designation preferred.

Knowledge

  • Skilled in providing an exceptional partner and member experiences through written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills,
  • Demonstrated interest and background knowledge in public health issues.
  • Knowledge of communications/marketing principles preferred.

Salary Range: $86,336 - $91,710
